Ekstasis – more dancing ~less teaching
ékstasis – The removal of the mind or body from its normal place of function
Ecstatic dance has been practised throughout human history, and is a form of dance that has no need to follow specific steps, that allows us to abandon ourselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes us, leading to trance and a feeling of ecstasy.
Modern ecstatic dance was revived by Gabrielle Roth in the 1970s and formalised in her 5Rhythms practice.
In this mode of Ecstatic Dance we will use Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms map called The Wave.
Expect the unexpected, encourage the unconventional and leave nothing at the door – invite every aspect of your being to show up and dance!
All ages and physicalities welcome. This class will be lightly facilitated with an invitation for you to discover your own dances. So I encourage you to attend at least one led 5Rhythms class with a 5Rhythms Teacher as a prerequisite so that you get maximum benefit from your participation.
And remember – if you don’t to your dance – who will?
